Stage Combat 101 with the Jaycees
September 21 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Have you ever watched a fight scene in a movie and wondered, “How’d they do that??” Fight choreography is a skill used in everything from movies to theatre to pro wrestling. Get a glimpse “behind the curtain” at this introductory class on some common stage combat techniques, and learn basic moves such as punches, slaps, kicks, etc. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes so you can move easily.
Our class instructor is Josh Gerry, a local theatre fight choreographer and former professional wrestler. Josh is a former US Marine Corps Martial Arts Program Instructor who wrestled professionally from 1999-2006. He has coached pro wrestling for more than 10 years and is currently a timekeeper for Ring of Honor Wrestling (where he can be seen weekly in their TV product). He has acted in local theatre productions including Annie, The Wizard of Oz, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and A Time to Kill. In addition to stunts and small fight choreography for those productions, Josh has been the fight choreographer for several productions of The Triad Shakesperience company. He served in the US Marine Corps for eight years and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Class fee: $5
