Drinking with the Cops

The Winston Salem Jaycees have had a strong relationship with the Winston Salem Police Department spanning decades. As part of their police academy every year, the cadets in training are required to perform a mock field sobriety test. Because of our strong relationship, the WSPD invites us to participate in an event we call, “Drinking with the Cops”. In this event, police officers pick up volunteers at their homes and take them to their training center to consume alcoholic drinks to become inebriated. While inebriated, the cadets will conduct a mock field sobriety test on each of the volunteers to help them get a genuine feel for what it is like to pull someone over who may be driving under the influence.

Tuesday, February 2nd and Wednesday, February 3rd

Tuesday, February 9th and Wednesday, February 10th

The Winston Salem Police Department will pick up the volunteers between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM on their scheduled date. Participants will be returned to their homes by 9:00 PM. We will need four (4) volunteers each night. In your RSVP, please provide the following information:

Note: You are encouraged not to eat for at least an hour before pick-up in order to give an accurate reading, and know that some snacks will be available throughout the evening.

To participate, you must be an active member or associate member of the Winston Salem Jaycees. Spots for this event typically fill up very quickly and priority is given to new members or first time participants.
